TU Munich

Layman Innovation works:
Amateurs built the Ark, Professionals built the Titanic

The TU-Munich is maybe the best University for Technology development in that country. Kein Thema! Inspired by the lecture of Product Planning and Development, in October 2003 i went to the Tu-München to take a Seminar: Mass Customization and Personalization. By coincidence, my travel was at the end of Oktoberfest.

Previously to this Seminar, i was working with the conceptual frame for a Research Project to be launch as Master Thesis. Essentially it starts as private topic consulted with a Ph.D-candidate from my University, but after several consulting rounds, he did not agree to support me.

Mass Customization is one of the most decisive management tools in leader industries, and is not only related with product-design (platforms). Consulting companies together with researchers are putting in practice this trend in their customers around the world.

In this interdisciplinary congress i get many ideas about "user-driven innovation". As matter of fact, the development of this web-blog follows the ideas from Jack Aaronson, a main speaker in this Congress. Further information about "Narrative Websites" here.

Finally about the "aborted" research project: if MCPC works for DELL, Lego, and other well-know innovative firms, using several technology assesment rules before the launch of products (from computers to toys), then, using advanced tools-kits for customization in special fields of applied technlogy, as the market represented by bio-compatible devices (e.g. composite bones for hip joint replacement) could help to reduce the mechanical adaptation before any explorative or chirurgic treatment, with the design of customized products, to be implanted in the patients, human beings.
