A day in Sommer 2003 a friend of mine (from TUHH) invite me to a meeting in the Elbe's riverside, the Blankenesse beach. There we join a group of young professionals, enjoying the long night of Summer with a BBQ on the beach. This was my first contact with the very cool Lions Club Askanier.
That day the group have a new president -Christian Thiele- (with a tide in Photo) and we empathize very good with the other members as Marion, Clara, Björn, Karolin, Philipp, Norman, Annkatrin , Svenja, etc.... The new president invite me to meet the group again as "gast" (guest).
In the forthcoming 15 months i was in frequently contact with the group in different activities, exempli gratia, the regular "Children-care" (Kinderbetreuung) in Jenfeld (Rahldestedt , north-east of Hamburg). That place have a special concentration of families with social-educative troubles, and that fact is difficult to believe in a modern country like Germany...
Yes, like another country children are in Germany the weakness in families with structural disorders. For instances, in 2004 in this sector of Hamburg, a 6 year-old girl (Jessica) died due starvation in her own home (!), weighning only 9 Kgs: a legal process is still open against her parents.
The engagement of LEO members in the social-oriented activities, maybe for other´s countries people, look very especialized, but indeed they were effective to give a hand where others organizations are not present: in Germany some families have internal disorders, an sometimes histories like the dead of 9-children due their mother , impulse the formulation of social-oriented questions and well-defined initiatives.
The children-care activity demanded time on Sundays afternoon, and previous coordination with a psycologist (Photo) ; the children were in a range between 12 - 8 years, and very different problems. The economical support was possible due contributions in activities like the selling of flowers in the Lutheran Church of Saint Petri (Festliches Adventskonzert, on December 13, 2003). Other initiatives to obtain the resources were with the support of well-know companies as Karstadt, during the Christmas season.
